Datacenter Migration Engineer
Role description
The Datacenter Migration Engineer will be dedicated to executing a Migration/Relocation/Consolidation of critical datacenters within the customer. This person will be deeply involved, alongside Application Owners, Application Architects, and Infrastructure Engineers, in the planning and execution of the data center migration and consolidation program. The ideal person can help assess, discover, and document Infrastructure to Application Dependency and create detailed documentation regarding asset inventory and technical migration plan within VMware/Server/Storage environments, including configuration and management. Manage technical aspects involved with infrastructure consolidation/moves.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
· Assist with reviewing existing Data Center infrastructure configuration, platforms (Compute, Storage, Network, etc.) and work with technical teams to define optimal migration approaches with proposed plan.
· Perform high-level technical design and coordinate with Technical Architects and other technical teams with the data center consolidation/moves within VMware/Server/Storage environments, including configuration and management.
· Manage technical aspects involved with infrastructure consolidation/moves.
· Assess, discover, and document Infrastructure to Application Dependency and create detailed documentation regarding asset inventory and technical migration plan.
· Manage technical plan, track milestones, and identify dependencies.
· Assist with planning change activities with the consolidation/move to execute data center infrastructure migration project.
· Work with technical architecture teams, stakeholders and other engineers to help create and develop a data backup and recovery plan.
· Interface directly with Network Engineering team regarding enterprise-wide LANs/WANs technical aspects while clearly and effectively communicating with cross-functional teams.
· Coordinate any modifications to the system environment with IT and change management and develop Concepts of Migration, Requirements, Basis of Design, and documentation.
· Participate in analyzing, assessing and documenting system configuration settings against established requirements for commonly used IT platforms.
· Support project tracking by maintaining relevant log on boarding metrics and other relevant criteria while serving as a key team member for incident response related activities and collaborates with technical teams for security incident remediation and communication.
Education & Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree or experience in relevant field/equivalent work experience
· 5+ years' years relevant work experience with systems, datacenter infrastructure & engineering concepts is required
· Must have Data center migration experience and Compute/Storage/Network experience
· Must have experience with VMware/Server/Storage environments
Desire Requirements (Not Mandatory):
· Valid Cisco certifications including, CCNA and CCNP are highly desirable
· Knowledge of LAN/WAN (Cisco switches Catalyst 9000 Series and Nexus, MPLS, DMVPN, VRF)
