Network Engineer, Datacenters

Role description

The Network Engineer will be responsible for building, operating, and maintaining network devices installed in Washington DC while supporting related activities with a datacenter migration project. The ideal person will be able to configure routing protocols, provide network information, configuring ports, VLAN, extensions, etc., to support a datacenter migration.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

·      Create complete end-to-end plans including designs and/or upgrades for enterprise-wide LANs/WANs while clearly and effectively communicating with cross-functional teams.

·      Coordinate any modifications to the network environment with other IT departments and change management and develop Concepts of Operation, Requirements, Basis of Design, and critical design documents and drawings.

·      Perform fault isolation and resolution in a methodical, thorough manner.

·      Assist with life-cycle management evaluations and recommendations.

·      Participate in the designing and operations of networks using routing protocols such as BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, route leaking, route redistribution, route-maps, etc.

·      Install, configure and maintain Cisco switches Catalyst 9000 Series and Nexus, stackwise, protocols like STP, RSTP, MSTP, PVST, R-PVST, PVST, VPC.

·      Participate in analyzing, assessing and documenting system configuration settings against established requirements for commonly used IT platforms.

·      Support project tracking by maintaining relevant log on boarding metrics and other relevant criteria while serving as a key team member for incident response related activities and collaborates with technical teams for security incident remediation and communication.


Education & Required Qualifications:

·      Bachelor's degree or experience in relevant field/equivalent work experience

·      4+ years' years relevant work experience with network engineering and datacenter operations

·      Previous experience designing and operating networks using routing protocols such as BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, route leaking, route redistribution, route-maps, etc.

·      Previous experience installing Cisco switches Catalyst 9000 Series and Nexus, stackwise, protocols like STP, RSTP, MSTP, PVST, R-PVST, PVST, VPC

·      WAN technologies, MPLS, DMVPN, VRF


Desire Requirements (Not Mandatory):

·      Valid Cisco certifications including, CCNA and CCNP are highly desirable

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops project work plans following PMI best practices and reports to PMO.
  • Establishes project scope, objectives, and goals.
  • Defines required tasks, milestones, deliverables, and interdependencies.
  • Coordinates and directs project activities to ensure adherence to the work plan, for both internal resources and external suppliers.
  • Coordinates with department executives to allocate resources for the project.

  • Participates in special projects and tasks as required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in management or information systems with five (5) years of project management experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of computer systems (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and proficiency in MS Project.
  • Prior experience with agile project management methodologies and related terminologies.
  • Knowledge of tools like JIRA or similar is preferable.
  • Analytical skills, case evaluation, and accurate decision-making.
  • Ability to handle high volumes of work and meet deadlines. Skilled in managing multiple tasks simultaneously with priority setting.
  • PMP or Agile SAFe certification a plus
